The Goodwood Festival of Speed, which has become through the past 26 years the excellence show for cars and motorbikes, both historic and modern, is known all around the world as unique and one of a kind for the number of vehicles attending the event and for the presence of many VIP guests and of motorsports legends, as well as for its public – around 300,000 people each day – and for many other exceptional “ingredients” that every year the flawless organization uses to surprise the visitors.
From the very first editions (to be precise since 1995) Scuderia del Portello has always been present, invited by Lord March – currently the Duke of Richmond and Gordon – with really prestigious Alfa Romeo historic cars which belong to the “Museo Dinamico” of the Scuderia and which have made the history of Alfa Romeo in the races.
This year the team from Arese was invited with the De Tomaso F1 Alfa Romeo which took part in the Gran Premio d’Italia and in the Formula Uno World Championship in 1961 with Bussinello and Vaccarella; thus, Scuderia was there with the big shots and the official F1 teams, both of the past and of the present (the Scuderia’s car was driven by its President, Marco Cajani).
Racers such as – just to mention a few – Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, Derek Bell, Arturo Merzario, René Arnoux, Damon Hill, Jochen Mass, Rubens Barrichello and Mika Häkkinen were there with the young F1 champions, among which Daniel Ricciardo with the team Renault, Valtteri Bottas and Esteban Ocon with the Mercedes, Carlos Sainz Jr. with the McLaren and Antonio Giovinazzi with the new Alfa Romeo Racing and the single-seater car which is the outcome of the synergy between Ferrari and Sauber.
Among the several celebrations held during the kermesse, deeply moving and spectacular was the moment dedicated to the 50 years of Michael Schumacher: in the presence of his wife, of Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, of Jean Todt and of the old Ferrari team which brought the champion to win 5 world Championships with the “Prancing Horse”, all the single-seater cars driven by the German champion during his career paraded, from the Jordan, to the Benetton, to the Mercedes.
